Assess sun and reflected heat
Outdoor decking can become hot in direct sunlight. Evaluate actual samples in the intended exposure and discuss shade, furniture placement and normal footwear. Material, colour and weather all affect the experience; a family label does not promise a cool surface.
Nearby glazing can concentrate reflections. Ask about that exposure before choosing a board or positioning the deck.
Avoid blanket slip-resistance promises
Texture is only one part of footing. Water, ice, leaves, contaminants, footwear and the layout of access routes change conditions. If a particular slip-resistance test or commercial requirement matters, ask for evidence for the exact product and application.
Keep drainage paths open, clean using approved methods and consider stairs, lighting and handholds as part of safe circulation.
Make the concerns visible in your enquiry
Include direct sun, nearby glass, shaded wet areas or year-round access needs in the quote request. Ask the supplier to explain the chosen product’s documented limits rather than relying on a general marketing claim.
