COSTS & QUOTATIONS · THE HAUSE DECKING GUIDE

Make the whole project add up.

Understand what belongs in a decking budget and how to compare complete quotations without relying on a misleading price per square foot.

Start with a complete scope

The finished deck includes more than its surface boards. Site conditions, access, shape, stairs, guards and structural work can change the overall cost substantially.

Part of the projectQuestions to ask
PreparationIs demolition, disposal, site protection and access included?
StructureIs framing repair or replacement needed? Who confirms it?

FinishingAre stairs, guards, fascia, trim and any lighting in scope?
InstallationWhat labour, permits, inspections and cleanup are included?
Delivery & taxAre freight, delivery constraints and applicable taxes shown?

Understand the quantities

An area measurement is a starting point, not a final order. Board direction, available lengths, supported joints, borders, cutting allowance and usable offcuts affect the materials required.

Ask for the quantities and assumptions behind the quotation. A cut plan should explain where boards will run and which finishing pieces are included. Confirm shortages, extra material and returns policies before purchase.

Compare quotations on equal terms

  • Request dated Canadian-dollar pricing with a clear validity period.
  • Match the exact product collection, profile, colour and fastening system.
  • Compare the same structure, stairs, guards and finishing scope.
  • Identify exclusions, allowances and optional upgrades.
  • Confirm stock, substitutions, lead times and payment terms.
  • Clarify warranty, installation responsibility and follow-up support.

A lower initial figure may represent a different scope. Resolve missing items before treating quotations as directly comparable.

Make room for choices

Separate essential work from optional features. The necessary structure and compliant access should be understood first; then compare finish options, borders, lighting or additional zones.

Ask how a different board direction or layout changes labour and material use. Keep a reasonable allowance for unresolved site conditions until an inspection and final scope are complete.

Understand design studio pricing

The interactive studio contains sample products and illustrative prices for exploring a quoting workflow. Those figures are not current dealer offers or verified installed prices.

The site does not accept orders or payments. Send a project enquiry with your location, approximate dimensions, photographs if available separately, timing and priorities to begin a real scope conversation.
