PROJECTS · THE HAUSE DECKING GUIDE

Match the work to the skills and responsibilities.

Decide which tasks you can reasonably handle and which need qualified help.

Be realistic about the complete project

Deck work includes measurement, structure, product-specific installation and safe access, not just cutting boards. A straightforward surface layout can still conceal difficult foundations, house connections or guard attachments.

Read the complete product instructions before deciding who will install it. Identify skills, tools, handling requirements and the consequences of mistakes.

Know when to obtain specialist advice

Raised or unusual structures, heavy features, deteriorated framing and uncertain property conditions warrant competent assessment. Engineering and trade work must follow local requirements. An online quantity model cannot establish structural safety.

If you hire an installer, agree who handles permits, inspection access, procurement, cleanup and final documents.

Divide responsibility in writing

For a mixed DIY/professional project, specify where one person’s work ends and the next begins. Check whether customer-supplied material, substitutions or owner-installed components affect workmanship or labour coverage.

Choose supply quotation, design/installation or advice in the intake form so the initial review matches your plan.
