What changes with the material?
Wood is a natural material; species, grade, treatment and moisture condition affect its appearance and detailing. Composite combines engineered ingredients in a manufactured board. Neither choice eliminates the need for a suitable structure.
Composite can reduce recurring sanding and refinishing, but it still needs cleaning and product-specific care. Wood offers a different feel and repair approach. Compare actual samples rather than assuming all boards within either family behave alike.
Put the ongoing work beside the purchase price
List the maintenance you are willing to do, the finish you prefer and how the deck will be used. Ask how scratches, stains and individual damaged boards would be handled. Compare the complete installed scope and the upkeep over your intended ownership period.
A composite surface does not resolve decay in existing framing. Include structure assessment and finishing details in both options.
